Darren Isaac, Tai An Khang seal Men’s Doubles crown in Smiling Fish International Series
Men’s Doubles experts Darren Isaac Devadass and Tai An Khang of Malaysia won the Smiling Fish International Series by overpowering Siriwat Matayanumati-Pusanawat Saisirivit in the final match on May 6, 2012.
The Malaysians defeated their opponents in three hard fought sets by registering concluding figures of 14-21, 21-14 and 24-22.
However, they had to wait for 40 minutes as the opposing team showed great resilience and made title match a memorable contest.
Both teams paved their path to final by stamping hot favourites of the event. The twosome of Darren Isaac and Tai An Khang edged the local duo Peerapong-Sarayut Saetang while the second finalist pair surpassed the top seed couple Calvin Ong Jia Hong-Tan
Wee Gieen in the semi-final round.
On the final day of event, the partnership of Siriwat Matayanumati and Pusanawat Saisirivit was superb in the opening game.
The Thai campaigners forged a fruitful chemistry to gain a 1-0 lead in the match. They were little cautious in start as the opposing couple remained close to them in score position.
Siriwat Matayanumati and Pusanawat Saisirivit picked up their speed in later part of the game and left their challengers far behind. They finished first set with a significant margin of 21-14.
Next game was a repeat show of first one but in the Malaysians’ favour as the couple found their lost rhythm and wrapped crucial set even quicker than the previous game.
The backlash from Darren Isaac and Tai An Khang was simply unbeatable and Thai defence collapsed after resisting for some time.
In first half of set, the natives made swift progress but their expedition was short as their competitors stepped forward with some back-to-back points.
After the interval, Darren Isaac-An Khang maintained their upper hand and equalled match score by putting final figure of 21-14.
Third set proved best part of the tussle as both teams stretched hard to steal the limelight. They made the crowd gasp with their breath-taking performance.
In the beginning, the Thai shuttlers remained in dominating position but they could not go with same flow in later part of game.
This battle for crown was over when the Malaysian couple bagged last two points and sealed the victory with decisive margin of 24-22.
