Darren Lockyer's parents fly in for his last on-field performance - Rugby news
While talking to reporters on Tuesday, November 15, Darren Lockyer, the Australian skipper, shared that his parents are flying in to watch their son’s last on-field performance, where Australia will lock horns against New Zealand, at Elland Road, Leeds,
on this coming Saturday.
However, his wife and his son will not be able to make it to his last on-field brilliance. While explaining his wife’s otherwise expected presence, the player said, “My wife and son won't be able to make it because we're expecting our second in early January
but mum and dad are over. They're in London for a few days and they're going to go to Paris for a day so it's a nice little trip for them.”
The player added that his parents have had a huge influence on him in reaching this level in his career, which will make their presence at his last game a very emotional and special.
The player further added that his parent have never visited UK or Europe, prior to this visit of theirs’ and since they are almost 60-year-old now, travelling just to watch their son’s last on-field performance means a great deal for the departing Roo.
Expressing his thoughts about his parents’ presence the player added, “I thought this one was a special one and I knew they wanted to be here so they will. They've done a lot for me and it will be great to have them here."
Lockyer will be bowing out of his 16-yrear professional career on Saturday's Gillette Four Nations final against England, where he will make his 59th appearance. The player’s elaborate profile is abundantly studded with feats ranging from his record breaking
performance in games 2009 and in 2010 for scoring most tries for the Australian national team.
Lockyer’s performance in 2008 was full of recognitions. He was named in a list of Australia's 100 Greatest Players (1908–2007) which was released by the National Rugby League (NRL) and Australian Rugby League (ARL). Later, the same year, he made it in the
Queensland Rugby League's Team of the Century at fullback.
After the wrap up of this year’s Four Nations, the player will bid farewell to the Australian national team, the Queensland State of Origin team and his NRL club, the Brisbane Broncos.
