Darren Lockyer celebrates 350th first grade game with massive win over the Cowboys
Darren Lockyer who captains the Brisbane Broncos said that he has reached the “fairytale” ending to his career, marking the milestone of 350th first grade game along with a win of 34-16 against the North Queensland Cowboys at the Suncorp Stadium, on August
12.
Lockyer exited out of his 350th game surpassing the records held by Steve Menzies and Terry Lamb. With this win Brisbane is on the third spot within the National Rugby League (NRL) ladder with the Melbourne Storm leading the ladder.
Lockyer admitted that he always considered this big dream too farfetched and stated, “I'm realistic enough to know fairytale's don't always come true. I think we've got a chance if we stay fully fit. I know we were 20 points off the Storm the last time we
played them, but for 60 minutes (of that game) we were in it.”
He also said that if his outfit continues to perform in the similar manner, extracting out the loop holes from their game in their last two weeks’ performances the outcome will definitely be in Brisbane’s favour.
Anthony Griffin, who is coaching the Brisbane Broncos of NRL, was brimming with praises for the Broncos skipper for his outstanding display of performance.
Griffin pointed out that Lockyer has a splendid control over the ball as he possesses the ability to reign in the situation when it seemed to have slipped out of hands.
While speaking about it, he added, “He controlled the ball when things were spiralling out of control a little bit at times. He gave us that control we needed. He was magnificent on such a big night for him.”
It was clearly pointed out by the Australian coach that the distinguished ability of Broncos’ skipper led them crawl their way out of the difficult situations. It was also told that the formidable control which was often amiss from their game was frequently
snatched back by Lockyer.
The coach shared that their milestone-studded skipper has what it takes to own the NRL title. He reckons that Brisbane if align themselves under the flagship of Lockyer and maintain their fitness for the fixtures lined up ahead, no reason validates their
defeat.
Brisbane is currently targeting for the second spot within the ladder which will leave them just a single jump away from the Storms, who are leading the ladder. It will be a prized performance if Brisbane manages to knock out the Newcastle and South Sydney
during the next two weeks, as this will aid Broncos to be on the second spot within the ladder.
This acquisition of second spot will be the icing on the top for Lockyer, as he will bid farewell in round 26 at the Suncorp Stadium.
