Darren Morgan beats Steve Judd to win 2012 European Masters Snooker Championship
After putting up an excellent snooker display at Daugavpils in Latvia, the veteran potter from Wales, Darren Morgan was able to win the 2012 European Masters Snooker Championship. The Welshman was up against England’s Steve Judd and defeated him by the score
line of 6-0.
The match up was expected to be one of the toughest clashes of the event because both potters showed great form in the round robin formatted group stages and the initial stages of the contest. However, Morgan made it look so easy against Judd and overpowered
him in no time to earn the whitewash victory.
Morgan gave no chance to Judd to come back into the game and give him any trouble. The veteran potter fired some classy snooker shots during his final encounter run. He was very happy after beating his old mate.
While speaking to the local media at the end of the event, “To win 38 frames in a row is a bit of a joke. I’m not sure it’s ever been done before. I’m delighted. I gave it up at the right time. My head had completely gone and I wasn’t enjoying it at all.
Looking back now with the way I’m playing I sometimes think, ‘did I give it up to early’, but at the time it was the right decision.”
The 46-year-old added, “In the last year I’ve been to Latvia, Bulgaria and I’m off to Egypt and to Thailand for the World Six Red Championships, competing for a £40,000 prize against people like Mark Williams and Mark Selby, so I’m happy with that.”
The opening frame of the game was a piece of cake for the Welshman as he cruised into the 117-20 victory totally unnerving his opponent with a 1-0 lead. A classy 90-1 win the next frame brought him 2-0 ahead and Judd was under immense pressure. At the end
of the first session, Judd was completely unsettled by Morgan with another two-frame run to finish the session 4-0.
Judd collapsed in the second session and gave an open table to Morgan to hit two more frame victories and claim the Masters title by the score line of 6-0.
