Darren O’Day available for pitching duties after resolving sore hip problem
Reliever, Darren O’Day, of the Texas Rangers has reported over in Arlington for effective duty. The 28-year old was confirmed to have a sore hip, by manager Ron Washington.
The player had not been available for the series against the Kansas City Royals at the Rangers’ Ballpark. Now, he is available for the new series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
"He was just a little sore and stiff", Washington said. "We're just trying to let it settle down. He was available [Sunday] and he's available today".
The manager was quick to reflect on the game, which witnessed right-hand pitcher, Cody Eppley, throw two scoreless innings in O’Day’s absence. The skipper affirmed that the sore hip was not the reason why Eppley made his Major League debut that night against
the Royals.
"We wanted to get his feet wet quickly", Washington said. "We didn't want him waiting around. He's funky like O'Day and he had been pitching two to three innings at a time. At the time, we needed somebody who could give us funky multiple innings, so we went
with Cody".
Darren O’Day has stated that his hip problem has been an issue for the past three years. That revelation is startling, given the fact that he was one of the five relief pitchers from 2009 to 2010 to post an earning runs average below two, at 1.94.
"I'm on my way to another one", O'Day said. "That's the plan. I'm just working through this and I'll be ready to go tonight".
The veteran pitcher has lost one game up till now in the new Major League Baseball season. He has featured in seven games, pitching up to 6.1 innings. He has allowed six hits, two runs and four walks. He has an earning runs average of 2.84 and he was a consistent
performer for the Rangers last year.
The club is sorting out its bullpen issues. While the rotation seems ripe with good pitchers, the inconsistent performance from the bullpen explains why a lot of tweaking is going around in the mix.
