Darren O’Day heads to 60-Day disabled list due to hip injury
Texas Rangers reliever, Darren O’Day, was recently put on the disabled list, following a hip injury. The problem removed him from the club’s rotation.
In his stead, Ryan Tucker has come in from a minor league associate team, Triple-A Round Rock. The injury has been appearing over and over again during the course of the last three years. His ouster from the bullpen has placed immense pressure on Darren
Oliver and Arthur Rhodes.
O’Day was placed on the list after an examination was conducted by Dr. Tom Byrd in Nashville, Tennessee. The doctor is a reputable figure with the Tennessee Titans and has been dubbed the expert on hips.
His team physician status allows him to study the problem well and according to him, the Texas reliever must undergo surgery. The procedure will involve the cleanup of the labrum.
"He has been pitching with it but right now it's got to the point where it bothers him and we decided to do something about it", manager Ron Washington said. "It could be the reason why things were being left in the middle of the plate but he's tried to
pitch through it. It just shows you how much guts he has".
Tucker comes in with a lot of support from the Minor League. Manager, Ron Washington, has been talking positive about his new squad member.
"He's pounding the strike zone and has a live arm", Washington said. "He has a good breaking ball and a good changeup. He was also a guy who could give us multiple innings".
Catcher Taylor Teagarden has worked with the player before and he had a lot of things to say about him.
"Pretty sharp", Teagarden said. "He's got a lot of life on his fastball, he keeps it down in the zone and he has some run to it".
The replacement catcher further stated that the reliever has a small sharp slider but when he observed him, he saw the pitcher taking down opponents with his heater. He recalled that the sharp ball thrower kept his throws down and that was hard for batters
to handle at the end of the day.
