Darren Sammy – The Cricket World ‘Player of the week’
Darren Sammy, the West Indian Captain, has been announced as the Cricket World ‘Player of the week’.
He was instrumental in the 40-run victory against Pakistan in the first Test and led his side by example when he grabbed five important wickets in their second innings.
The first match of the two Test series was played at Providence Stadium, Guyana from May 12 to May 15, 2011.
Pakistan required 219 runs for the victory and had reached 80 runs as they lost three wickets on May 14, the third day of the match.

Ravi Rampaul, who is the leading fast bowler of the Windies, stated at the end of the third day’s play that they were just one wicket away from the victory.

The West Indian skipper was the best bowler for his side in their second innings. He took five wickets for just 29 runs and brought back a Test win for his side after a lapse of 27 matches in nearly two years.
He was awarded with the ‘Player of the match’ title as well.
It was the first Test achievement for Sammy as Captain and would have boosted the morale of his entire team.
