Darren Sammy admits New Zealand were the better side – Cricket News Update
West Indies skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 has lauded the efforts of New Zealand, who finally managed to end their losing streak, and claim a comprehensive 88-run win over their hosts, in the 3rd ODI of the 5-match series, played on July 11 at the Warner
Park in Basseterre, St Kitts.
“http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 played really well. It was an off day for us,” Sammy said, adding that his team had already put the loss behind them and were looking forward to regaining their winning ways in the 4th ODI. “We've been playing some good cricket. We
won't let one game dampen the spirit of the boys.”
Following their below-par performances against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 received a major boost in confidence in the initial stages of their ongoing series against New Zealand, claiming a 2-0 win in the T20 leg of the tour, and going on
to secure victories in the first 2 matches of the ODI series.
However, they were denied the easy route to a series win by the Kiwis, who made a comeback just in time, and secured an 88-run win which brought the series score up to 2-1.
“They outfielded us today and they were much more positive in their approach,” Sammy pointed out. “The guys felt we could restrict them to a low total. Chasing down 250 here, we should have gotten it. But they seemed to execute their plans much better today
and they were really good in the field.”
One of the Black Caps weaknesses so far has been an insipid batting order. While players such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Nicol-c2331 managed to break out of the rut, and post
an individual total of 59.
He was aided in his efforts by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Watling-c1172 (40), but the final score of 249 still looked far from formidable, given the recent performances of the Windies batting order.
However, the Kiwis put forth an impressive bowling performance, accompanied by intense fielding which saw the Windies restricted, all out, to 161, by the 35th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trent-Boult-c2708 all went on to claim 2-wicket hauls each, while the fielders managed to dismiss three batsmen (Marlon
Samuels, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869) via run out.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andre-Dwayne-Russell-c44235 was the key performer for the West Indies, claiming his second four-for of the series, and going on to score an unbeaten 42, although his efforts were not enough to enable his team to match up to the Kiwis.
However, the Windies have been near invincible throughout most of the series so far, and will be looking to tap into that previous spirit as they attempt, once again, to claim their first international series win against Test-level opposition in 4 years,
in the 4th ODI, scheduled for July 14 at the same venue.
