The once most dominant team of the world has been struggling to find consistency in the recent past. However, they have been doing a decent job after a dismal show in the ICC World Cup 2011 in Asia.
According to Sammy, “Our team is looking good. We have won a Twenty20 match against World Champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and managed to draw two out of
the three Test matches.”
The 27-year-old said that he was pleased with the progress of the team until now. He added, “We had played a very young team and it showed improvement. As bowling unit we proved that we can bowl out teams twice in Test matches and also bowl out top teams
in one-day cricket. So I am very happy with the progress.”
Sammy took over captaincy from explosive opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 in 2010. His aim was to do well in the World Cup, but things did not turn out to be as good as the all-rounder had expected.
However, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) did not change the captain of the team after the Mega Event, which gave a lot of confidence to Sammy. He faced a lot of criticism and was considered a weak link in the team, but still managed to do a respectable
job against top teams.
The Caribbean player had to lead a very young side, but did not panic under pressure. He bowled his side to a fabulous Test victory against Pakistan and proved his critics wrong.
The biggest challenge for the Windies has been the absence of Gayle in the side. The hard hitting batsman can win matches on his own, but has been involved in a rift with the board since the World Cup.
The Caribbean dynamite has been playing cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Champions League Twenty20 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). His comeback in the side will definitely help Sammy to achieve the goals he had set for the future.
