Darren Sammy all praises for mystery spinner Sunil Narine – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869, claiming that the 24-year-old is “unplayable” on home ground.
“In our conditions, he [Narine] is unplayable,” Sammy said. “Especially, when we post a good total, knowing that I am going to get 60 balls from him. I know what he is going to do. Any situation, you can call on him, and it is good to have someone like that
in your team who you can turn to at any given time.”
The young off-spinner debuted for the national side in December last year, during an ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 earlier this year in
March. Not only did the team put up a competitive showing, ending the series on a draw, Narine proved to be the bane of the Aussie batsmen, and claimed a total of 11 scalps in 5 innings.
However, the team was unable to avail his services for the following Test series, as the right-armer attracted a whopping $700,000 bid from the Kolkata Knight Riders in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League, and chose the T20 tournament over a
Test debut.
After finishing as the Knight Riders’ leading wicket-taker of the season, the 24-year-old went into the Windies’ tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, but the surfaces did prove conducive for the spinner – he only managed to claim one wicket in 2 ODIs, and none from the T20
leg of the tour.
However, Narine’s bad run was brief, and back on home ground he went on to compensate in a big way in the following series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. He claimed 7 wickets during the two-match T20I series in Florida, which culminated in a 2-0 victory for his side.
In addition, he went on to win the Player of the Series award for claiming a total of 13 wickets, at an average of 11.23 and an economy-rate of 2.92 during the 5-match ODI series his team recently won, 4-1. His 5 for 27 haul in the final match of the series,
played at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts on July 16, is his career-best, and won him Player of the Match award.
Predicting a bright future for the youngster, Sammy expressed his confidence that Narine would continue to live up to the team’s expectations.
“I know he is going to continue to do well for us and have a very successful career,” he said. The team’s next assignment is the Test leg of the Kiwis ongoing Windies tour, with the first match scheduled to kick off on July 25 at the Sir Vivian Richards
Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
