Darren Sammy appeals his batsmen to do well in 2nd Test against India – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Julius-Garvey-Sammy-c52468, the West Indian skipper, has asked his batsmen to regain their lost momentum and perform with their backs to the wall to win the 2nd Test against India, averting a series collapse. India leads the 3-match Test series 1-0. The 2nd Test is set
to start today, June 28, 2011, at Bridgetown.
The Windies batsmen have been out-of-form since their http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. Resultantly, the hosts lost
both of the series.
Now, the skipper wants to win the Test series at every cost as this victory can be a face-saver for them.
Talking to the media today, Sammy said, “We need to bat properly. The thing we did wrong (in the first Test) was not put runs on the boards. For us to win, our batsmen need to come to the party."
He further told, “Throughout the past few series, apart from the first Test in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 last November, our batsmen have been struggling for a little bit.”
The Caribbean bowlers have performed excellently during this series but they are not backed up by their batsmen and thus their efforts go futile.
The captain said, “We cannot fault the bowlers for bowling India out twice for under 260.”
Sammy, who did not deliver well with the bat in the last game, is confident of compensating the loss by contributing some match-winning runs this time.
He said, “From that side, I want to put runs on the board as captain, and continue with my other role of being the workhorse, or stock bowler, but still pick up wickets.”
Analysts believe that the Windies’ batting vows are due to the absence of their top batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221, who has been out of the team continuously since the World Cup.
Gayle is having a spat with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board (WICB) and is being sidelined deliberately.
However, the team selectors, in order to improve their batting strength, have replaced the out-of-form vice captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kirk-Anton-Edwards-c71510 who is to make his Test debut today.
