Darren Sammy calls for consistency – Cricket News Update
After whitewashing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 captain, Darren Sammy, has urged his players to be more consistent in their performances going into the One Day International series against the Kiwis, which gets underway at Sabina
Park, Kingston, Jamaica, on Thursday, July 5, 2012.
"We're looking for consistency," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 told reporters on the eve of the one-day series opener. "For the past few series we haven't started well. In the first game, we bowled a few boundary balls. We started off the overs well, and eased off the pressure
in the fifth and sixth balls," he explained.
Sammy and Co. was beaten 2-0 by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in their previous ODI series, in England last month, but the side made a startling comeback with a 2-0 T20 series humiliation of the Kiwis. However, the home skipper said that there were still areas his side needs
to improve in.
The men from Caribbean have not won an ODI series against a Test playing nation, sans http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, over the past four years.
On the other hand, the Kiwis also go into the ODI series at the back of an unimpressive run, having won only one bilateral ODI series against a highly-ranked opposition, since December 2008. On the course, they also suffered a 0-4 whitewash at the hands
of Bangladesh, in an away series in 2010.
The last time New Zealand toured the Caribbean islands was in 2002 and the hosts had won the five-match ODI series 3-1, with one match abandoned.
Meanwhile, the explosive West Indies opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 is looking towards scoring a ton at Sabina Park on Thursday.
"The last time I walked off Sabina Park I was raising my bat after I got 165 for Jamaica against Windward Islands...I would love to get a hundred here and raise my bat again," maintained the hard-hitting left-handed batsman from Jamaica, who will be on Thursday
playing his first international match in front of a home crowd since returning to the national side.
Gayle’s inclusion in the side, after a gap of more than a year, will be a huge boost for the Windies in the home series against the New Zealanders.
