Darren Sammy comes out in defence of Ottis Gibson – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358 has brought the idea of determination to the team.
A number of senior players are not having good relations with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), and have been sidelined. The list includes one of the most destructive opening batsmen of the modern era, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 and middle-order batsman, Ramnaresh
Sarwan.
Many former cricketers, especially http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Anthony-Holding-c75756 has slammed the attitude of WICB and expressed that the officials consider them greater than the game and they are hampering West Indies’ progress at the international stage.
West Indies have had a torrid time in international sport since the last two decades, but there has been an evident improvement in their performance since the last one year. There are many talented players coming through the ranks of junior cricket in the
islands, who can serve Caribbean cricket for years to come.
Gayle and Sarwan have openly expressed their displeasure over Gibson's behaviour, who they feel is very harsh towards the senior players.
However, Sammy claims that he and the coach are trying to bring in a change of culture in the West Indies team, which did not believe in hard-work in the previous years. The all-rounder said that the Caribbean team’s performance proves that they are going
in the right direction.
"Coach Gibson and myself are trying to build something for the future here. Everybody might not like it but the team has been responding in the last few series we've played. People are free to talk, it's a free country. He (Gibson) came on board with a whole
new idea - determination, working hard for yourself and the team," Sammy expressed.
Sammy is not bothered about the criticism and wants to carry on with the momentum his team has gained over the past 12 months.
He added, "I think ever since I've been captain, people have been saying these things. I try and do the best I can for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 but everybody has an opinion and I respect that."
