Darren Sammy elated at Guyana win as Misbah rues missed opportunities: Cricket News
West Indian skipper, Darren Sammy, has stated that the win in the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 was due to the effort of the entire team that fought through some tough situations to come out with a much needed win. The first one in Test
cricket for the Caribbean Kings since February 2009.
Sammy, who played a leading role in his team’s triumph on the penultimate day of the Test, thinks that the win would play a key role in reviving the game in the region after years of struggle and strife between various camps that had
thrown them off the pedestal of top teams in the game.
The low-scoring match was full of ebbs and flows. The two teams kept plugging away before the hosts knocked out the visitors with an inspired bowling display after the lunch interval on the fourth day.
Sammy was the one who accounted for the last three batsmen. He bowled a brilliant line and his length was immaculate on pitch where the ball was generally staying low. The right-armed bowler won as many as four LBW decisions in the
second innings. His fifth victim, Saeed Ajmal, was comprehensively bowled by a sharp in swinger.
The stage for the victory was set by an inspired opening spell by Ravi Rampaul on the third afternoon. Sammy praised his efforts he stated that it was tough call choosing between him and the express pace bowler Fidel Edwards, but Rampaul
did not let him down.
He also praised the batsmen who fought hard on a tumultuous pitch against the guiles of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 who snared 11 wickets in the match.
"Rampaul looks fit, and has worked really hard with Ottis Gibson [the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 coach]. It was a tough decision to pick between him and Fidel Edwards," Sammy said."It was a difficult pitch. We found ourselves not playing the spin
too well. But I commend the guys for the effort; they batted out time and put in a total which in the end was enough to get the victory”.
Sammy hopes that his team would continue to improve in the next Test set to be played in St. Kitts; he thinks that this team has in it to win the test series.
Meanwhile the Pakistani camp was deflated after the defeat the captain of the team Misbah Ul Haq stated that the result was hugely disappointing as his country throws away another opportunity of winning a Test series in the Caribbean.
A dream which has eluded all Pakistani captains who have taken the team to the Islands.
The right-handed batsman, who scored the lone fifty in the match, stated that the batsmen could have ground out a win, but were generally undone by good balls.
He also lambasted the fielding which let the team down in both innings; the tourists dropped many catches which eventually cost them the game Misbah stated.
"To lose this Test is disappointing, they played better cricket and bowled disciplined lines," "We dropped so many catches and gave away so many runs to the lower order. We were a little disappointing from the batting point of view
also," Misbah said. "We fought well yesterday [Saturday] to recover after losing early wickets, but most of our guys got out to good balls."
Misbah feels that the players have to address their technical weaknesses if they are to make an impact and bounce back in the second test of the series. He hopes that the team would be in the right spirits for the all important match
at St. Kitts.
