Darren Sammy happy with Ramnaresh Sarwan’s inclusion in the squad – West Indies Cricket
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 captain, Darren Sammy, has welcomed Ramnaresh Sarwan’s inclusion in the squad for the fourth One-Day International against Pakistan at the Kensington Oval on May 2.
“We know he (Sarwan) is a good player. With him back it is a plus for the team and we wish him all the best. He will be a key player in those middle overs as we look to keep the strike ticking,” Sammy said.
Sarwan, along with the other two Caribbean senior batsmen, was sidelined following the conclusion of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011. The right-handed batsman will replace the opener, Devon Smith, who failed to make his mark in the
ongoing series and was trapped lbw, three times by off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez.
Sammy added that his side will have to put in hard work and they want to give better performance than their showing in the previous three One-Days, and their aim is to win this time.
The skipper also added that the Windies will have to get better at strike-hitting techniques. He said that they could post a big-run target only if their strike could damage the bowling form of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s bowlers.
“The ‘dot ball’ percentage has been high and we need to combat the opposition bowlers,” stated Sammy.
The captain said that they lost the series because they did not manage to set a big-run target. Sammy asserted that the batsmen needed to put up a better effort against Pakistan spinners.
West Indies have lost the series 0-3 against Pakistan, and in three of their encounters, they batted first and did not set a huge run target. In the first ODI, the Windies, while batting first, set a target of 222 runs in fifty overs. Only Darren Bravo could
add a considerable 67 runs off 109 balls. In the second ODI, they posted a target of 221 runs, which Pakistan achieved easily for the loss of three wickets.
West Indies in the third ODI, set a below par target of 172 runs in 43.4 overs. In response, the visitors also took an unimpressive batting start as their openers failed to face the Ravi Rampaul deliveries. However, the vice-captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 brilliantly
helped his side to clinch the series with his 62 runs.
A finalized West Indies squad for the last ODI match against Pakistan is yet to be announced.
