The West Indies captain, Darren Sammy, has praised rookie leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo for his excellent performance for West Indies recently and hoped the youngster will take his good form to the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, starting on Sunday, at Feroz Shah
Kotla Stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780.
The 27-year-old St Lucia pacer said that Bishoo is a quick learner and has learnt a lot since making his Test debut earlier this year.
"He is the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Emerging Player of the Year and he has been in good form after his inception in Test cricket,” said Sammy while talking to the media reporters on the eve of Kotla Test. “You want your main spinner to win matches for you in such conditions.
He is learning a lot since he made his debut and he is a quick learner," he added further.
Bishoo, a 25-year-old leg-spinner from Guyana, made his Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in May this year and has so far played in seven Test matches picking up 32 wickets at an average 30.53 and an economy rate of 3.07 an over.
During the glory years of 70’s and 80’s, which saw West Indies winning back to back World Cups in 1975 and 1979, the Caribbean side was known for its four-prong pace attack. The pace attack of Windies is no longer a formidable force of yesteryears but the
visiting skipper said that they are improving in the pace department and hoped to get back the glory of 70’s soon.
When asked about his experience of leading the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket team, the pacer reckoned he has improved in decision making since taking over as captain of the national side.
"I am learning everyday. In cricket as in other walks of life one learns each day and I'm doing that. I think I am improving in decision-making as captain," said Sammy.
Replying to a query regarding the Kotla strip, the visiting skipper said that with a tinge of green, the wicket seems to be good to score runs.
Sammy’s Indian counterpart reckons the Kotla track would offer some assistance to the spinner in the later stages of the match.
"Initially it won't turn much but as the game progresses the spinners will get some assistance from it," said Dhoni when asked about Kotla strip.
