West Indies Cricket has been in doldrums for almost anyone can remember. The lack of passion in the players and absence of new talent has almost annihilated the fear of West Indies Cricket from the Cricket playing nations.
Infighting has almost become a necessity when you are related with West Indies Cricket, making people think if cricket is a dying sport in the Bahamas.
Perhaps the recent clash of Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo with the West Indies Cricket Board over contract signing might have a better impact on the depleting cricket situation in the West Indies.
With Chris Gayle, refusing to sign central contract, the West Indies Cricket Board was left with no option but to appoint a new captain of the side. The name of Darren Sammy as captain might seem a bit risky, but his attitude towards
West Indies Cricket is surely what the doctor ordered.
Darren Sammy, who has been in and out of the West Indies side since his career started in 2004, believes that he needs to lead with an example from himself and inject the fighting spirit in the players. He wants the players to
play for pride and victory rather than self projection.
The selectors felt that a player who was fully committed to his national side deserved to lead, which made Darren Sammy an easy choice.
