West Indies’ skipper, Darren Sammy, commended the way his boys fought against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the 1st ODI, held on November 29, 2011, at Cuttack. However, he expressed disappointment over the close defeat.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, the captain was cheerful for the fabulous struggle his team put on the field from start to the end.
Talking to the media, he said, “Everytime you lose it is quite disappointing. We just didn't have the last spark to take us past the finish line. The opening bowlers did well to give us a start and we fought all the way to the end, but it wasn't enough.”
Sammy further told, “We could have done things differently, we even bowled 23 extras, but I would like to commend the boys. They fought with never-say-die spirit and it is going to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135.”
In last night’s rip-roaring clash, both the teams had to fight at their best for the last-minute triumph. India’s stand-in skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739, won the toss but elected to field first. The Caribbean could not resist the strong bowling attack and kept
losing wickets with regular intervals till the end of their innings, totalling 211/9.
The Men in Blue also followed the same route. Though they started well, they failed to score quickly. The visitors dominated the game by grabbing 5 wickets for just 59 runs. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RA-Jadeja-c2238, demonstrated enough resilience to snatch
the match from the opponents.
Towards the end of the game, there came another twist when the Caribbean side fought back, but the tail enders, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umesh-Yadav-c94625, hit one boundary each to manoeuvre victory in the second last over.
Despite the defeat, a confident Sammy, who fell on duck but took one scalp, reiterated his aim to resurge in the series with a new spirit and win the next clash, set for December 2, 2011.
The 27-year-old all-rounder has had a sour experience as captain, as the Windies have not achieved any significant success since he held their reins. The right hander has played 21 Test, 66 ODI and 24 T20I games so far.
