Darren Sammy ready to welcome Chris Gayle in the Test squad – Cricket News Update
West Indies’ captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221, for the on-going Test series against England.
The destructive left-handed opening batsman has not played international cricket since the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011 due to strained relations with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). However, disputes between the two parties have
been solved recently and Gayle has made himself available for selection.
Ignored by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, the explosive batsman has been playing domestic T20 events all around the world and has made a huge impact with his hard hitting. Gayle was not supposed to take part in the three-match Test series in England
because of his commitments in the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, Gayle’s franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore has failed to qualify for the play-offs and as a result, the left hander can immediately join his national side in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, if selected.
Sammy expressed that team management has nothing to do with the off-field controversies and whenever Gayle joins the West Indian team, he will be greeted warmly by everyone.
"Whatever happens outside this squad takes its own course. Whoever comes in we will welcome them into the team and hopefully they will help. It is up to the selectors to select the team,” Sammy said.
Sammy and company lost the first Test at Lord’s by five wickets and their top-order batsmen failed to cope with the extra movement of the ball in the English conditions. Given the batting failures, is a huge temptation for the Caribbean
selectors to include Gayle in the Test squad.
The all-rounder added, "I think Chris has said he is available for Test cricket, one-day cricket and T20 so it is up to the selectors. We have been having some difficulties at the top of the order and if he comes in we would all welcome
him, myself, Ottis and all the guys."
The second match of the series is going to commence from May 25th, 2012, at Nottingham and it remains to be seen whether the left-handed opener is allowed to join the team or not.
