West Indies all-rounder, Darren Sammy, has refused to name a hot favourite team to win the just-to-begin Champions Trophy tournament, saying all teams have an equal chance of clinching the title. He further said
that whoever will play better cricket consistently will win the tournament.
"Whoever plays the better cricket over a longer period of time will win this tournament,” said the St Lucia all-rounder adding, “so we will have to be at our best, we will have to be consistent and we will have
to take it one day at a time."
Sammy, who guided the Windies to the World T20 Champions title in October last year, recently lost ODI captaincy to Barbados all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379.
The 29-year-old right-handed middle order batsman, who also bowls right-arm medium pace, conceded that they have not done as well in one-day cricket as they should have, adding that the calibre of the Windies
players is very high.
"Hopefully in this tournament we will come out and play the brand of cricket which helped us to win in Sri Lanka last year,” hoped Sammy, a veteran of 33 Tests and 92 One day Internationals. “It will require
all of us playing together towards one common goal, which is to win that trophy,” insisted the Windies Test skipper.
The latest edition of the ODI showpiece kick starts in England on Thursday, June 6, 2013. A total of eight teams, divided in two groups of four each, will participate in the esteemed tournament. The Windies have
been drafted in Group B, which also consists the world champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
When asked to name http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760’ greatest rival in the tournament, the St Lucia all-rounder said that all the teams were their main rivals adding that they would be taking it as one game at a time.
The tournament curtain raiser will be played between India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755,
at the Oval on Friday, June 7.
