Darren Sammy replaces Chris Gayle as captain of West Indies
The West Indies Cricket Board has sacked Chris Gayle from the position of the captain of the West Indian cricket team on Sunday. Instead, the board has appointed Darren Sammy as the skipper of the side.

The axing comes at a time when Gayle – along with Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard – had refused to sign the West Indian contracts. The trio have some lucrative deals for different domestic T20 tournaments
around the world including the Indian Premier League, the KFC Big Bash T20 and English T20 Cup. The trio had decided to choose playing in those tournaments over being fully involved with West Indian cricket.

Gayle continues to remain the part of the West Indian side for the three-Test match tour of Sri Lanka that begins in November this year. Bravo was the vice-captain of the side and even he has been removed
from the job. Brendan Nash, the Australian-born left-handed batsman, has been appointed as Sammy’s deputy.

Gayle was the captain of the West Indian side in 20 Tests and won only three of them. The side did not achieve much in terms of rankings either and were seventh in the Test match format and eighth in the
ODIs.

Sammy was obviously elated with the promotion.
"Being appointed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Young-c41367 team which I have been
moulding into playing consistently competitive cricket, will stand me in good stead as West Indies captain as we work on building a team for the future,” he said.

The selectors also announced the squad for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Russell-c87177 is also a part of the team. Shane
Shillingford will be a part of the squad as will fast bowlers Nelon Pascal and Kemar Roach.
