Darryl Sutter was driving factor behind Los Angeles Kings -NHL Update
Darryl Sutter, one of the most recognizable personalities in the hockey world, has always strived for greatness and with the Los Angeles Kings, his hard work finally paid off, adding him to the list of Sutter’s to have won the Stanley Cup in their history
with the National Hockey League (NHL).
His run with the Calgary Flames back in 2004 as their head coach nearly got the job done but as they were eliminated in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals against Tampa Bay Lightning, it just was not enough.
Being inducted to the Los Angeles Kings club was something no one could have imagined for Darryl Sutter, but it turns out, the hockey Gods had other plans for him and winning a Stanley Cup was just a matter of time.
"He strives to be perfect, and in hockey that is pretty tough to do," Kings center, Mike Richards, said. "He expects that out of you and he pushes for it."
Winning three straight games to kick of the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals against the New Jersey Devils, Los Angeles Kings were faced with a frustrating situation when the Eastern Conference team bounced back with two straight.
Sutter never blinked and his team rebounded with a huge 6-1 victory in Game 6 to take the cup.
"Every time we win a game there are always three or four things we can do to be better," Richards said. "In a hockey game you're never going to be perfect, but he's looking for it and he always pushes us. He has that way of pushing the buttons where he can
get the most out of you."
Kings never could have imagined that they would win the Stanley Cup after barely making the playoffs during the regular season. They became the first eighth seeded team in NHL history to win the cup and they have Darryl Sutter to credit for that.
For Darryl Sutter, the up and coming hockey season will be a whole new adventure in which he will be defending the cup. It will definitely be interesting to see how the Kings and the legendary coach react then.
