Darts drums the mantra of charity for hospice
With the assistance of legendary darts figure Andy 'The Viking' Fordham, Earl Mountbatten Hospice was able to raise a fund of 1,800 pounds.
The amount came in the form of charity over a two-day function that took place in East Cowes.
During the course of the event, Andy took on darts players from Victoria Tavern and Liberal Club of the town.
With the help of this technique, over 160 people were able to attend the show and donate their contributions.
Apart from raising financial support for the organisation, the event also had other functions to fulfil.
Another prime purpose that manifests the presence of the two-day event was to honour Carol and George Eldridge.
George Eldridge was taken care of by hospice Macmillan nurses after he was diagnosed with cancer. He breathed his last from the disease at the age of 58 back in 1993.
In addition to this, his wife Carol has always been proactively involved in different types of humanitarian works.
This can be vindicated from the fact that she has actively been raising funds and donations that she provides for developmental purposes in her island of Hawthorn Close in Binstead.
Among many of her notable works, Oakfield Football Club is her one of the most recognised accomplishments.
Sources reveal that in the year 2004, she was also diagnosed with cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment for the removal of cancerous elements from her body.
It is also important to mention here that one of the chief organisers of the event, Wayne Stevens, who is Carol’s son-in-law said, "It was very well supported. Every time I put something on in East Cowes people turn out to support it. They are brilliant".
He further added that with the help of such initiatives, he has been able to fulfil dual purpose.
One, with the help of such events, he is able to raise adequate money for the help of people who need it in such recessionary circumstances.
Secondly, these events also play a profound role in projecting a social responsibility under the influence of darts and encouraging the game of darts on a wider platform.
