Darts from the spectacle of John Gwynne
John Gwynne, for long, has been considered as one of the most reputed and credible sources in the game of darts. With the rampant popularity of the game, he believes that the year 2012 will be one exciting year to look forward to when it comes to darts.
There remains less doubt about the fact that the 2011-2012 Ladbrokes World Darts Championships added greater thrill, excitement and suspense to the portfolio of darts.
It was for the first time when the game of darts was actually looked upon as emerging from the dominion of a handful of players who, at one point of time, concentrated all power resources.
It was for the time first time that the underdogs of the game did not seem afraid of not only challenging but also combating them effectively in their respective encounters.
Last, but not the least, the event proved that no one is invincible, whether it is darts or any other sport of the world.
Another important point that distinguished this year’s main event from its predecessors was the elimination of the top notch players in the early rounds.
The greatest shock or jolt in this category came in the knockout of Phil Taylor, who in the very beginning of his campaign, had to depart from Alexandra Palace after being defeated by Dave Chisnall.
This was particularly a source of direct motivation for many underdog players who were able to rise appreciably in the championship. Likewise, they were able to pursue their journey in the subsequent stages of the event.
Players like Andy Hamilton and Simon Whitlock, who faced each other in the semis of the event, are a comprehensible manifestation of this sudden twist of events.
Moreover, it was also quite commendable from the audience’s perspective that was bizarre of watching the same players in the finals and then as winners periodically.
This time the spectators wanted something different and the participants surely did not disappoint them.
It is also important to mention here that the audience’s like or dislike for a player must not be corresponded with his game.
The viewers might not like to see Taylor in the finale but for them he will remain the greatest darts player of all time.
Second best to Taylor was Adrian Lewis, or the Jackpot, and the current darts champion.
He might not acknowledge it openly but the news of Taylor’s elimination from the grand event must have sent a current filled with exhilaration down his spine. As for Lewis, Phil’s elimination from the event was tantamount to taking a leap towards grabbing
the trophy.
Furthermore, Lewis, like always, was well able to organise his game by properly, understanding his opponents. Needless to say that he might also get nasty sometimes in the entire manipulation process.
His complain of wind direction in the hall while competing against James Wade in the second semi-final might have integrated the perception of a cry baby.
However, few would have guessed that he just needed time to devise a counterstrategy that could help him in making his comeback, especially when Wade was leading by 2-0 in a crucial match.
His potential of making a tremendous comeback, once again, materialised quite effectively in the game.
With new players in the game taking control of the oche it is quite obvious that the game of darts on the whole has entered a completely new phase, where it is soon going to be new talent and breed from all over the world to dictate new rules and regulations
of the game.
As long as there are new champions ready to showcase their potential and talent in the game, the interest and excitement of darts will never diminish.
