Darwin Barney praised for his magnificent performance - MLB News
The Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum on Thursday, June 22, complimented the great performance of the team’s second baseman Darwin Barney. The 26 year old player has come forward as the potentially flawless player in defence.
Ever since his arrival in the team on April 17, he has made his ascension as one of the accomplished defensive players in the league. With no errors in his statistics, he has already exhibited his excellence as the key player of the Cubs.
A quick look at his record shows that he has now had 56-game errorless streak, a milestone very few players have been able to achieve in the history of the club. This he has done in having had just over 462 innings in the field.
Such an outstanding display of the game cannot go unnoticed or overlooked by anyone who has their eyes set on the game. The team manager of Chicago Cubs, for one, is all praise for Darwin Barney’s excellence.
"He's done an unbelievable job at second base," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "He's got good range, especially to his left. He's doing a great job. He's been far and above anything that I saw from the other side of the fence."
Like said earlier, very few have achieved the milestone that has come to Barney’s way. The last time any Chicago Cubs infielder did this was in 2009 when Mike Fontenot had 90-game errorless streak, a record that Barney would have his set his eyes upon.
With more and more adjustments, the player has all the potential to come attain new heights in the game. Dale Sveum shed light on this aspect of the game too.
"When you get to 50 games, that's pretty impressive, it doesn't happen too often with middle infielders," Sveum said. "When you're playing second base and you have to turn double plays, take relay throws and all that stuff, that's where some of the errors come in."
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see if infielder Darwin Barney manages to break the record of his former Cubs’ teammate Mike Fontenot.
