Question:

Darwin and Evolution?

Since if there is a supreme being it was His hand that directed evolution, and if there is none, evolution happened anyway, where is the conflict of theory? Can't both things be true? I speak, by the way, as an atheist, which is neither here nor there.

  1. In theory, you're right.  But, beliefs are very strong, and influence our thinking regarding such things as evolution.  That is why so much is controversial concerning the subject.

  2. And your ability to acknowledge the meaning of these words came from where? An explosion? And an explosion caused the birth of all the different forms of life and gave you knowledge far better then beast or insect or plant etc.......May God Blessed you with Wisdom....

  3. I'm speaking as an agnostic.  I agree that a supreme being could have started the process that we know as evolution.  The reason some people have a problem with this is that if evolution is true, it means that their Bible is not true, the very idea of which is enough to make their heads explode.

  4. Nah. I made it happen

  5. There are many forces at work in the universe which man still fails to understand.  Evolution seems to neatly answer many of our questions about the origins of life, but most people don't realize that it violates several physical laws which we take for granted.  Either our theories about physics are off base, or evolution is.  If there is a God, that could explain the discrepancies, but God violates many scientific theories as well.  In the end there's nothing to rule out the theory of creationism, the theory of evolution, or some combination thereof.  We simply don't have enough data to be certain of any of these things.

  6. We have overwhelming line of evidence for evolutionary processes.

We have not a scintilla of evidence for gods.

We think things true when we have reason to think things true, not because it is a sop thrown to the delusional.

  7. In Islam THE CREATOR ALLAH JEHOVAH YAHWEH EL  EL OH HE EM What Ever You CALL THE INITIATOR OF EXISTENCE Is Also Called THE EVOLVER OF LIFE This Is In The Holy Quran "Koran" It Was Sent Down Over !400 Years ago and THE CREATOR Tells Us To Learn All That We Can Through ILM Which Is Science And Deduction & Common Sense: Knowledge, Even Darwin Said In His Memwars That THE CREATOR HAD Something Marvelous In Mind WHEN HE CREATED ALL This! To Sum It Up Yes Both Are True!

  8. Your atheism is of course the primary feature of your argument.  If you were a card carrying Baptist, you'd believe God made all things by his own design, not by chance.

I happen to find your argument valid from the viewpoint of an atheist.  You are begging the question of what is truth?  If one is true, how can the other be true also?  Great subject for discussion.

  9. I think that the crux of the issue here, is that whether the universe was created intentionally, or accidentally, we who live within this giant "molecule" can NEVER know anything about the Nature of what created us!

It's like a microbe can never begin to know anything about the giant eye at the other end of the microscope, which it prabably cannot even perceive!

Also, even if our universe was created intentionally, that doesn't guarantee that whatever may have created us, maintains a constant relationship with us, or perhaps, is even aware that we exist!

  10. You are correct.  The theory of evolution and the belief in a supreme being are not contradictory.  They are two separate issues.

Evolution is a fact.  The only "theory" part of it is how often and how far back.  There is nothing in the Bible, Koran, or any other religious work that would refute the postulate that God could have evolved man from dirt.  It mearly says that He created Man from the dirt.  The mechanism is not explained or detailed in any way.

I have attended college classes that debate this actual topic.  The people who claim that one or the other is the only way it could be really looked like idiots under the questions provided by the top 10% that Purdue University had to offer.  My only real question is why there are people who, despite all physical and logical evidence to the contrary continue to debate the issue of Evolution Vs. Creation.  It is like asking if you are going to drive to work, or drink tea with your lunch.  They are not mutually exclusive.
