Daryl Tuffey to join New Zealand team as backup for Kyle Mills – ICC World Cup 2011 news
New Zealand fast bowler Daryl Tuffey has been named as the cover for the injured Kyle Mills in the ICC World Cup 2011.
Tuffey will join the team on Friday, 18 March as he is currently involved in a domestic tournament in New Zealand.
The national selector of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Mark Greatbatch stated, “With Kyle Mills suffering from a quad strain we felt it was important to cover our bases. The medical team is working hard to get Kyle fit and we are hopeful he will still play a big part in the
World Cup so bringing in Daryl is a precaution.”
The former Kiwi coach further added, “Getting Daryl over to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 early gives him the best chance of adjusting to the different time zone and conditions should he become part of the official squad.”
New Zealand suffered a blow against Canada when Mills sustained an injury after bowling less than three overs in the game. The wily medium pacer had to leave the field soon after, but his team went onto win the match convincingly by 97 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mills-c76321 is an important member of the Kiwi team, as he can take some quick wickets with the new ball. He has the ability to swing and seam the ball both ways, which can be tricky for the batsmen.
Apart from his bowling skills, Mills is also handy with the bat. The veteran player has scored two fifties in his One Day International career so far. However, the star player has plenty of time to recover before the knockout stages.
Other than Mills, the Kiwi captain Daniel Vettori is also not fully fit to represent his team. The veteran all-rounder injured his knee while fielding in a match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 and is also doubtful for
New Zealand’s next encounter.
The Kiwi team has already qualified for the quarterfinals, but they are left with one more game against hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391, will determine the opponents of both teams in the knockout round.
