Daryll Cullinan lambasts Herschelle Gibbs for "laughable" claims
Former South African middle-order batsman, Daryll Cullinan, has lashed out at Herschelle Gibbs for his claims that Cullinan had complained to the South African manager about his marijuana-smoking. Gibbs
and some of the other South African players had been caught smoking marijuana during the 2001 tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and Gibbs said in his new book,
To The Point, that it was Cullinan who had exposed them.
Cullinan has refuted these claims in his column for the website sport24 and said that it was the then-coach’s wife who had seen Gibbs’ smoking. Gibbs had also claimed that Cullinan had not only told the
manager about him but also about the other cricketers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Smith-c51750.
According to Cullinan, coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-c60529 Ford was told by his wife that she was suspicious that the cricketers had been smoking marijuana. He has also said that he came to know of the incident from the coach and
manager, Goolam Raja. Cullinan had opined then that the players should be banned from the tour.
He wrote: “En route from Kingston to Montego Bay, Ford approached me about the matter. I was of the opinion that the players should be sent home.”
However, according to Cullinan, captain Shaun Pollock had disagreed because that would weaken the team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 has written in his book that Cullinan and Telemachus were involved in a physical scuffle that led to Cullinan been pushed by Telemachus. Gibbs then describes Cullinan as fuming with a lot of anger and
he had then proceeded to tell the manager about the smoking misdemeanours.
Cullinan has denied this and claimed, "Gibbs alleges that there was physical contact during my altercation with Telemachus in the Montego Bay dressing room. For Gibbs to claim this is laughable as they were
other players present. Telemachus, for the second time on the tour, verbally abused me after my strong reaction to his lack of changing room respect and decency. The first incident was in the Antiguan changing room after the series win."
The two players are said to have not got along too well for the six years that they played.
