Daryna Zevina captures Women’s 200m back-stroke gold: Day four – European SC Swimming Championships
Daryna Zevina of Ukraine captured gold medal of Women’s 200m back-stroke on fourth day of the 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Szczecin, Poland on Sunday, December 11.
The 17-year-old Zevina met the expectations of her fans by reaching the podium for gold medal of back-stroke swim. With her unimaginable stroke and persistent efforts, she overwhelmed her challengers and emerged on the finishing wall as top finest swimmer.
She showed her determinacy for gold spot in the first round, where she completed her initial 50 metres of the race in a fastest time of 29.22 seconds. She was followed by Duane Da Rocha Marce of Spain, who remained 0.06 seconds slower than her and ended
her first round with an effort of 29.28 seconds.
The Ukrainian swimmer strengthened her lead in the second round of the race, where she ended her initial half of the back-stroke swim with a wonderful time of 59.85 seconds.
Among all the finalists, she was the only one two post a sub 1 minute effort in the initial 100 metres of the race, as Da Rocha Marce posted a time of 1 minute and 00.70 seconds for the equivalent distance.
The competition grew stronger in third round, where the Spanish swimmer managed to skim down the lead of her leading swimmer. Zevina remained fastest swimmer of the event and ended her third round with a timing of 1 minute and 31.39 seconds. She remained
0.51 seconds ahead of Da Rocha Marce, who ended the similar distance with a timing of 1 minute and 31.90 seconds.
Subsequently, the Spanish expert sustained her spot in the final round and captured gold medal of the event with a timing of 2 minutes and 02.25 seconds. Da Rocha Marce remained second fastest swimmer of the event and concluded her swim in a time of 2 minutes
and 03.32 seconds. The third spot was occupied by Melanie Nocher of Ireland, who clocked a time of 2 minutes and 04.29 seconds for bronze medal.
Furthermore, the podium scorers were awarded accolades for their efforts after the conclusion of championship.
