Daryna Zevina conquers Women’s 100m backstroke semi-finals – European SC Swimming Championships
Daryna Zevina of Ukraine conquered the semi-finals of Women’s 100m backstroke on day one of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Thursday, November 22.
Zevina showed no mercy to her opponents in the second round of the backstroke discipline and qualified into the final as best swimmer. With her elevated efforts in the semi-final, Zevina managed to outperform her closest competitor over the finishing end
by a margin of an inch.
She stayed only a touch ahead of her closest competitor and tapped the wall for fastest qualification spot of the event by producing a time of 57.10 seconds.
Zevina was followed by Kira Toussaint of Netherlands, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and entered the playoff as second best finisher by posting an effort of 57.16 seconds.
Third best qualification spot of the race was obtained by Simona Baumrtova of Czech Republic, who stayed only 0.09 seconds slower from her former swimmer and ended her race in a time of 57.25 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the event was obtained by Laure Manaudou of France, who stayed only 0.60 seconds behind and qualified into the final by reporting a time of 57.85 seconds.
Manaudou was chased by Anja Carman of Slovenia, who was half a body length behind and ended her race by touching the wall for fifth position with an effort of 58.33 seconds.
Sixth best qualification spot of the race was obtained by Sharon van Rouwendaal of Netherlands, who stayed 0.05 seconds behind and posted a time of 58.38 seconds.
Seventh spot of the event was obtained by Kimberly Buys of Belgium, who stayed 0.05 seconds slower and ended her race in a time of 58.43 seconds.
Buys was followed by Lauren Quigley of Great Britain, who stayed 0.01 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 58.44 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Zevina received a huge round of applause from the aquatic crowd for her notable form after her victory in the 100m event and stressed that she would try her level best to please her fans by dominating the final.
