Daryna Zevina earns Women’s 100m backstroke gold – European SC Swimming Championships
Daryna Zevina of Ukraine earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on day two of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Friday, November 23.
The Ukrainian swimmer showed no mercy to her opponents in the four-lap backstroke discipline and cemented her place on top of the victory stand for gold medal.
Zevina experienced strong resistance from her toughest challenger in the first half but with powerful stroke, she managed to gain a prominent lead and secured the crown of the race.
With her relentless efforts in the 100m discipline, Zevina devastated hopes of her opponents and reached the finishing blockade for the crown by producing an effort of 57.07 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Laure Manaudou of France, who stayed 0.63 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and reached the finishing end for second position by clocking a time of 57.70 seconds.
Manaudou was followed by Simona Baumrtova of Czech Republic, who stayed only 0.38 seconds behind and concluded her race in third place by reporting a time of 58.08 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Kira Toussaint of Netherlands, who remained 0.14 seconds slower and tapped the wall for fourth position by producing an effort of 58.22 seconds.
Toussaint was followed by Sharon van Rouwendaal of Netherlands, who stayed 0.25 seconds slower from her former finisher and proved her eligibility for fifth fastest spot of the event by touching the wall with an effort of 58.47 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Anja Carman of Slovenia, who stayed 0.13 seconds slower from her former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 58.60 seconds.
Carman was followed by Lauren Quigley of Great Britain, who stayed 0.14 seconds behind and ended her race in seventh place by posting a time of 58.74 seconds.
Eighth spot of the race was obtained by Kimberly Buys of Belgium, who was 0.20 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 58.94 seconds.
In addition, Zevina expressed happiness over her title claiming effort and raked accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
