Daryna Zevina pockets Women’s 200m backstroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Daryna Zevina of Ukraine pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Saturday, October 6.
The Ukrainian swimmer smothered hopes of her opponents in the distant backstroke discipline. She did not face any difficulty from her competitors throughout the event and paved her way to the finishing wall for gold medal.
Zevina enjoyed a lead of two body lengths over her strongest challenger and made her way to the finishing block for gold medal by producing a wonderful effort of 2 minutes and 02.99 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Melissa Ingram of New Zealand, who stayed 1.96 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end as second best finisher by clocking a nice effort of 2 minutes and 04.95 seconds.
Ingram was followed by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who stayed 2.59 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 07.54 seconds.
The Hungarian swimmer was trailed by Jenny Mensing of Germany, who tried hard to overpower Hosszu but failed to do so. Mensing remained 0.91 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end for fourth position by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 08.45 seconds.
Fourth best finisher was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 1.51 seconds behind and sprinted her way towards the wall for fifth position by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 09.96 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the race was obtained by Anouque Berghuis of Netherlands, who stayed nearly 14 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 23.85 seconds.
The Dutch swimmer was traced by Alethea Toh of Singapore, who stayed 1.05 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as seventh best finisher by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 24.90 seconds.
In addition, Zevina expressed happiness over her victory in the 200m discipline and stressed that she would struggle hard to achieve the same at forthcoming swimming events.
