Daryna Zevina secures Women’s 100m back-stroke heat: Day one - 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Ukraine’s Daryna Zevina and Brazil’s Nelson Junior Silva put in inspiring performances on day one of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Friday, October 7. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 100m back-stroke and
Men’s 50m back-stroke heats.
Zevina impressed UAE’s crowd due to her blistering swim and powered the finishing wall in 59.71 seconds to win the Women’s 100m back-stroke heat. After the race, Zevina is the hot favourite to win the final heat. Meanwhile, Japan’s Miyuki Takemura and Czech
Republic’s Simona Baumrtova settled for second and third positions with a mark of 1:00.81 minutes and 1:05.99 minutes, respectively.
In the corresponding race, United Arab Emirates’ Gabriella Austin finished fourth in 1:08.93 minutes and Petra Granlund of Sweden settled for fifth spot in 1:10.73 seconds. In addition, Jenny Balac of United Arab Emirates earned sixth position in a time
of 1 minute and 12.13 seconds, while Rhea Castelino of United Arab Emirates finished seventh in 1 minute and 13.50 seconds. Finally, Charlotte Lechner of United Arab Emirates earned eight place honours in a time of 1:13.97 minutes.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s Nelson Junior Silva powered the finishing wall in a time of 25.57 seconds to win the Men’s 50m back-stroke heat. Japan’s Masafumi Yamaguchi and United Arab Emirates’ Humaid Al Ghaferi finished second and third with a mark of 26.05 seconds
and 26.19 seconds, respectively.
Sweden’s Kristian Kron and Russia’s Evgeny Korotyshkin earned fourth positon with a matching mark of 26.27 seconds. United Arab Emirates’ Kolin Kevin Riazanov finished sixth in a time of 26.84 seconds, while Gene Laurence of United Arab Emirates settled
seventh in 27.39 seconds.
Ayman Klzie of Syria earned eighth spot in a time of 27.85 seconds, whereas, Aiman Al Kulaibi settled for ninth position with a mark of 27.99 seconds. Babu Pranam of India wound up tenth in a time of 28.51 seconds, while Mohammed Almahmoud of Qatar ended
eleventh in a time of 28.80 seconds.
The striking swims of all swimmers mesmerised spectators in the arena, while the winning contestants qualified for the final heats which are set to take place on Saturday, October 8.
