Daryna Zevina seizes Women’s 100m backstroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Daryna Zevina of Ukraine seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
The Ukrainian swimmer dictated terms to her challengers in the four-lap backstroke discipline and surfaced on the wall for gold medal.
With her invincible efforts in the 100m event, Zevina showed her urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 57.90 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Rachel Goh of Australia, who stayed full body length behind and transpired on the finishing end as second best swimmer by clocking an effort of 58.88 seconds.
Goh remained 0.39 seconds faster from Noriko Inada of Japan, who lived up to the expectations of her fans by submitting a time of 59.27 seconds.
Inada was traced by Michelle Coleman of Sweden, who remained one and a half body length away from upsetting her foregoing finisher. Coleman was 1.46 seconds away from her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 00.73 seconds for fourth position.
Coleman faced tough competition from her closest competitor, Jenny Mensing of Germany, but managed to overpower her over the finishing blockade for fourth spot.
Mensing suffered a deficit of just 0.07 seconds from her preceding swimmer and made her way to the finishing wall for fifth place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.80 seconds.
The German swimmer faced no trouble from her following swimmers throughout the race. She was traced by Lynette Ng of Singapore, who remained two and a half body lengths behind and cruised her way to the finishing blockade for sixth position by reporting a time of 1 minute and 03.22 seconds.
Seventh best position of the event was obtained by Alethea Toh of Singapore, who stayed 2.57 seconds slower from her and concluded her race with an effort of 1 minute and 05.79 seconds.
In addition, Zevina received massive admiration from the audience after her title claiming effort and articulated that she would continue her hard work to defend her title in future.
