Daryna Zevina wins Women’s 100m back-stroke title: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Ukraine’s young athlete and European champion, Daryna Zevina produced a wonderful swim on day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 100m back-stroke
race, where Zevina delivered her best against her competitors, Japan’s Miyuki Takemura and Czech Republic’s Simona Baumrtova by posting a thrilling time of 58.18 seconds to win the gold medal.
Zevina earlier captured gold medal in the Women’s 100m back-stroke race at the 2010 European Championships, in Eindhoven. She also won the gold medal at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, in Singapore. Moreover, she grabbed three gold medals in the 50m, 100m
and 200m back-stroke events at the 2011 World Junior Championships, in Lima.
Furthermore, Zevina went to win three gold medals at the 2009 and 2010 editions of the European Junior Championships, Prague. The FINA World Series is very important for Daryna as it will help her to prepare hard for the 2012 Olympic Games, in London.
Meanwhile, Miyuki Takemura took home the silver medal by posting a matchless time of 58.75 seconds and Simona Baumrtova earned bronze title by submitting an impressive time of 59.94 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Gabriella Austin of United Arab Emirates
gave her best attempt and finished fourth with a time of 1 minute and 06.43 seconds. Moreover, Charlotte Lechner of United Arab Emirates picked fifth spot with a mark of 1 minute and 08.85 seconds.
Additionally, United Arab Emirates’ Jenny Balac settled for sixth position in a time of 1 minute and 10.86 seconds. Last, but not the least, Rhea Castelino of United Arab Emirates wound up seventh in the respective meet with a finishing time of 1 minute
and 11.96 seconds.
The session’s swim impressed spectators in the arena, while the top-three winning contestants were awarded medals and accolades for their outstanding efforts. The next round of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series is set to take place in Stockholm, Sweden,
from October 15-16.
