Daryna Zevina wins Women’s 50m back-stroke crown: Day five – 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
Day five of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships got off to a strong start with scintillating swims of Daryna Zevina and Maksym Shemberey in Lima, Peru, on Saturday, August 20. The session of the meet conducted Women’s 50m back-stroke and Men’s 400m
IM finals.
In the Women’s 50m back-stroke final meet, Daryna Zevina of Ukraine took home the gold medal with a sterling time of 28.45 seconds. Meanwhile, Kathle Emma Saunders of Great Britain secured silver medal on the podium by submitting an impressive time of 28.76
seconds and Chanta Landeghem Van of Canada snared bronze medal in the platform by posting an immaculate time of 29.01 seconds.
In the corresponding meet, Hazal Sarikaya of Turkey wound up fourth in a time of 29.12 seconds and Olivia Smoliga of United States rounded out the top five in a time of 29.20 seconds. Camille Gheorghiu of France was placed sixth in a time of 29.22 seconds,
while Camille Gheorghiu’s team-mate, Mathilde Cini finished seventh in a time of 29.36 seconds. Yekaterina Rudenko of Kazakhstan earned eighth place honours in a time of 29.37 seconds.
In the meantime, the Men’s 400m Individual Medley crown taken over by Ukraine’s Maksym Shemberev with a victorious time of 4 minutes and 15.64 seconds. China’s Xiang Li captured the silver medal in a time of 4 minutes and 17.00 seconds, while Kosuke Hagino
of Japan snatched bronze medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 4 minutes and 17.15 seconds.
In the corresponding race, United States’ Josh Prenot wound up fourth in 4 minutes and 18.44 seconds and Great Britain’s Ian Matthew Johnson was placed sixth in a time of 4 minutes and 18.54 seconds.
Chase Kalisz of United States was placed sixth in a time of 4 minutes and 23.78 seconds, while Alec Page of Canada wound up seventh with a mark of 4 minutes and 24.67 seconds. Brayden Salmon of Canada settled eighth after she ended her swim by touching the
finishing wall in 4 minutes and 27.87 seconds.
