Daryna Zevina wins Women’s 50m back-stroke semi-final heat: 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
Day four of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships ended with the scintillating swims of Daryna Zevina and Maclin Davis in Lima, Peru, on Friday, August 19. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 50m back-stroke and Men’s 50m butterfly semi-final
heats.
In the Women’s 50m back-stroke semi-final heat, Daryna Zevina of Ukraine hit the wall in 28.60 seconds to finish first. Meanwhile, Olivia Smoliga of United States of America was placed second in a time of 29.09 seconds and Hazal Sarikaya of Turkey wound
up third in a time of 29.11 seconds.
Camille Gheorghiu of France earned fourth place honours in a time of 29.17 seconds, while Emma Saunders of Great Britain wound up fifth with a mark of 29.18 seconds. Landeghem Van of Canada settled sixth in a time of 29.21 seconds. In the corresponding race,
Mathilde Cini of France was placed seventh in a time of 29.27 seconds and Yekaterina Rudenko of Kazakhstan earned eighth spot with a mark of 29.32 seconds.
Jessica Fullalove of Great Britain was placed ninth in a time of 29.41 seconds and Katarzyna Gorniak of Poland settled tenth in a time of 29.57 seconds.
In the meantime, the Men’s 50m butterfly semi-final heat was clinched by United States’ Maclin Davis with a winning mark of 24.12 seconds. Michael Vukic of Croatia earned second place honours with an impressive mark of 24.20 seconds, while Martino Lucatello
of Italy was placed third in a time of 24.69 seconds. In the corresponding splash, Yevgen Koptyelov of Ukraine was placed fourth with a mark of 24.74 seconds.
Matthias Bellance of France settled fifth in a time of 24.80 seconds. Yunpeng Liu of China earned sixth place honours with a time of 24.88 seconds, while Erich Peske of United States of America settled seventh in 24.92 seconds. Germany’s Bastian Vollmer
wound up eighth in a time of 24.94 seconds. Reynard Wessels of South Africa earned ninth place honours in a time of 24.99 seconds. Last, but not the least, Isa Joseph Schooling of Singapore was placed tenth with a mark of 25.02 seconds.
The arena applauded for the stunning performances of all swimmers after the session’s completion.
