i read in my manual to check my brake fluid. it was just a tiny bit under the minimum level, so i got brake fluid and now its a bit over the maximum level (oops) but the light is still on! and no, my e-brake isnt on either.

what could be the problem?

  1. Could be a faulty brake fluid sensor, or an abs problem, although the abs light should also be on

  2. take a s***w driver and tap kinda hard on the cap and side of the brake fluid reservoir that should loosen it right up and turn the lamp off. i would say the float is just stuck.. common problem.. if this does not work you should deff. have your vehicle checked out by a certified mechanic as it could be unsafe to operate! good luck and take care!

  3. ABS malfunction

  4. The float in the resevoir may be stuck or sunk due to the float leaking inside.  The switch in the resevoir may also be stuck.  If the fluid is low, make sure you confirm there are NO leaks and that you don't need brake pads/shoes replaced.

  5. I agree with all of the above. but check under dash for the switch that your brake pedal hits when it is depressed. check e-brake switch in center console.
