The right hand side of my dashboard display has suddenly turned into gibberish, it is completely illegible and nothing i try seems to come close to restoring it. Any help would be gratefully received.

  1. This is not an unheard of fault on Xsara Picassos.

Ian is absolutely right, the highest mileage from the display or BSI will overwrite the other. However, Ken613uk is totally wrong, the display can be changed easily and without any specialist tools or knowledge.

Take a flat head screwdriver and carefully prise away the plastic surround around the display. Once this is off you can see 2 20torx screws, one at either side of the display. Remove these screws and pull out the display. Disconnect the electrical connector at the back and fit the new unit.

Thats it! The new unit does not need any sort of configuration and the mileage will be written to it automatically assuming it is a lower mileage than your car.

  2. the display unit has gone down. the milage of your car is stored in 2 places. the display unit and the ctrl unit. if you replace one the unit with the highest miles will be copyed to the other and displayed so if you buy a second hand unit make sure it has less miles than yours.

  3. You obviously have a problem with your on-board computer and it is not an item that is d-i-y.

It would appear that you will have to rely on the services of a Citroen specialist.
