  1. In Malibu there are many upscale Italian restaurants.

I would consider Alegria, it has a romantic but upbeat atmosphere. The food is Zagat rated and delicious. I recommend the Penne Arrabiata there. The do accept reservations, and you should call ahead. It is located just across the beach on PCH if you wanted to take a walk afterwards. One of a kind place.

Another Italian restaurant is Guido's. It is just like Alegria but a little more money. They have a steak that is one of the best.

Reservations are also recommended there. It is located just down the street from Alegria on PCH. One of a kind place.

    Address and Number:

    Guido's

    3874 Cross Creek Rd

    Malibu, CA 90265-4933

    Phone: (310) 456-1979

Also Marmalade Cafe in Santa Monica is another great place. It offers a wide variety of foods with a more modern atmosphere. One of a kind.

    Address and Number:

    Marmalade Cafe

    710 Montana Ave

    Santa Monica, CA 90403

    Phone: (310) 395-9196

The Cheesecake Factory is another great place. They have a nice Skirt Steak, but it is the only chain restaurant I would even consider. If you go there get their ICED TEA.

  2. Pasta Roma Restaurant, On Figueroa Two blocks north of USC

  3. You could pack a gourmet picnic and head to Legg Lake/Whittier Narrows. Legg Lake and the Whittier Narrows Recreation Park are about 9 miles, Southeast of Pasadena on Rosemead Blvd. The Japanese Garden in Van Nuys is incredibly peaceful, beautiful, and serene. A tour through it, is always a treat. It's also "Bowl Season" an evening concert and a picnic at the Hollywood Bowl is always nice.

The Huntington Library is in your DateMate's area too. That place can be very romantic on a slow day. Other spots in your Date's area include Descanso gardens and the Arboretum, Old Town Pasadena, Lake Ave. The city of Burbank, is "almost next door"  to Pasadena. Downtown Burbank is very "village-like" and has a similar atmosphere to Old Pasadena, as does The Burbank Town Center.

Closer to you, in Long Beach- Shoreline Village, Naples, Belmont Shore, Pine Avenue The Long Beach "Sea Festival" is going on now. The Long Beach edition of the "Discovery Map" is a great source of information on the Long Beach area and things to do, places to see and businesses. You can pick up a free copy at local malls or view it online. MapEasy "GuideMaps" are also a great source of information for major cities around the world, and is updated every year. You can pick up MapEasy guide maps at your local Borders for about $6 each.  Anaheim has Downtown Disney, which is a great spot for a fun date. Especially if it includes a concert/dinner at The House of Blues.

You could also go exploring areas of Los Angeles/Orange County that both of you never would ordinarily. Such as the various ethnic enclaves that we have throughout Southern Calif. Areas such as Little Saigon, Little Armenia, Little Tokyo, Little India, Korea Town, Chinatown... Poke around in the little shops and try a new cuisine. Find that one little cafe in one of those areas that becomes "your spot".

A few other things that people don't seem to do much anymore is tour our many Missions. Mission San Fernando, in Mission Hills and Mission San Juan Capistrano are very close. Mission San Gabriel Arcangel is extremely close to your DateMate's city. Olvera Street is another place that not too many people seem to visit. The La Brea Tar Pits and the Museums in Exposition Park are lovely. But other than the annual school field trips, people seem to forget they make for interesting, fun, date excursions as well. The Los Angeles Zoo, is another fun outing as well.

If your date is down in your area, and you feel like a drive... San Diego's "Old Town" is great day-long excursion. Head to Bazaar Del Mundo for shopping/dining.

  4. The Getty Center is actually a great place for a date, especially on evenings when they have a DJ.  Beautiful view of the area from the hills, beautiful art, nice music, some champagne.

  5. Wicked musical in Hollywood...sooo nice.
