Question:

Date & time change in my computer

These days when I switch on the computer, instead of displaying the current date and time it shows July 2002, 12:02 am. After that I change the time and date settings manually and continue to work but whenever I restart or switch on the computer sometime later, the same problem persists. I scan my computer regularly with AVG 8.0, it doesn't show any threats. And yes, OS is Windows XP? Any idea what could be the reason for this change in settings and how do I resolve it?

  1. try better antivirus software.becauses avg misses many viruses

  2. make sure your the admin. and it will resolve the issue

  3. there's a battery inside your computer case.  Just replace it with a fresh battery and your problem should be solved.  It's usually located on the motherboard (and normally looks one of the flat watch-type batteries).  They usually last 5-10 years but have been known to die quicker.  The battery is what keeps your date/time settings (and other settings) current when you're computer is turned off.   Check with your pc manufacturer to find out exactly where it's located and what type battery it is.  You can usually buy them at Radio Shack

  4. Nothing 2 worry..

    Just select right option in the time zone lolz

  5. Possible solutions;

    (1) Nothing wrong with OS or antivirus, just login as administrator and change the date n time

    (2) if the above solution doesn't work, open the CPU, u'll see a button cell of about 1 inch diameter. Remove it and replace it, thats what is the BIOS battery n keeps the time when ur comp is switched off.

    (3) Mail me if both the solns don work
