Dates announced for 2014 Ryder Cup
Dates of the 40th Ryder Cup, a battle between the American and the European team, have been finalised.
According to the schedule announced at Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland, the event will take place from September 26 to 28 in 2014.
"The arrangements for this spectacular event are well under way and I am delighted to announce today that the 2014 event will be held over the weekend of September 26-28,” Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond said.
The venue of the prestigious tournament is Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire Scotland. The course will be staging the Cup for the first time ever. However, the course is second to none in Scotland.
"As the home of golf, Scotland is well placed to host the best Ryder Cup in the competition's history when it arrives at Gleneagles in 2014," Salmond added.
Ryder Cup is one of the most prestigious events of golf. Every golfer strives to be part of it. It typically follows a format that stages the Cup every two years, with a switch between US and European golf courses.
The 39th Ryder Cup will be at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois, from September 28 to 30, 2012.
The American team will be looking forward, this year, to claiming the title from the Europeans as they are the defending champions of the event.
Although the US team has been in the commanding position, winning most of the events held so far, the European team performed amazingly well in some events.
The European team scored 14½, whereas US scored 13½ in 2010. This tournament is also special for having diverse results between both squads.
The US team is the current leader, with 25 total wins out of the 38 events played by far. On the other hand, the European squad managed to grab 8 events.
To welcome an elite tournament again for the second times is the happiest moment for the Scottish people.
In 1973, Scotland became the proud host of the 1st Ryder Cup. The US team won the event with a lead of 6 and scored 19, whereas Europeans scored 13.
For 2014, the European team has ample chances with top leading golfers that can record another memorable victory for Europe in Scotland.
