I am going into 8th grade this year. And I want to talk to my parents about dating, because I want it to be able to go on dates this year with people. What are good things to say, and stuff to do to have them listen to me and give me chances to date without them bugging me.

I am very mature for my age as well.

(I'm turning 14 in a few months)

  1. First of all, it's awesome that you want to/can talk to your parents about this stuff. Most people can't do that, so I'm glad you can.

I think you should just tell them how you feel, which is probably that you feel like you're at an age where you might want to date people. Odds are they won't entirely like the idea, especially since you can't drive and they won't want to be chauffeurs, haha. But if you really, honestly think you want to step into that world, just say, "I appreciate your advice, so I came to you to ask about this."

  2. Do your parents have rules about dating in your family? Mine had a rule that we could date once we got to high school. If yours doesn't, then you have decent chances of going on dates this year.

When you bring it up with your parents, you might start by asking them what they would think about you going on a date. You can probably judge how it will go based on what they say there - like they may be open to it, or they may say NO, in which case you are probably out of luck. Either way, you can also ask them when they think it would be okay for you to go on your first date.

One thing you could suggest to make them feel better about it is bringing along an older sibling if you have any, or bringing one of your friends along. You could also suggest that your date come to your house for dinner and to hang out. Leave your door open if they let you go in your room, that sort of thing. That way they feel more comfortable about it and will be more likely to let you keep dating. You could also make sure you go to public places on your dates, like the movies or the mall.

Good luck! Be honest with your parents and they will probably trust you well enough to let you go on dates.
