Dating an immigrant?

would you date an immgrant? i dont understand why so many american and canadian citizens date people from faraway countries that they know nothing about i don't understand there are so many people to date from your own country( canada or the u.s) i have a friend who dated an immigrant from africa for 3 years and he wanted to get married and he didnt have papers and 2 yrs ago he passed away and he didnt tell her a lot of things a few months ago he went to the doctor to get a check up and he never told my friend and the mother of his son died and he never told her that either he lied to her and said she was alive in africa and he never did his income taxes and he owed thousands of dollars to landlords and to the government and i told her she should be thankful she didnt married him because her life would of been much worse she would be a widow and what if she had a child, she would have to raise it on her own what do you guys think of this story.

I did more than date an immigrant.  I married one.

Immigrants are people too.  I don't think anyone should get mixed up romantically with an illegal immigrant but for just a normal immigrant I don't see a problem.

All these things that you mentioned can happen to people who are from the same country and dating.  Immigrants have  better chance of hiding their past because it is far away but people from the US and Canada can be deceptive and cruel too.  It really has nothing to do with the fact that a person is an immigrant or not.

Of course I'd date an immigrant. And probably more than I'd date an American girl.

However, as you wisely note, I would have some understanding of her cultural background as the more general attitudes of her home culture. If it got byond the simple dating stage I'd want to know a lot more about her particular personal back-story.

Yes I would and Yes I have!  You cant help who you fall in love with. Are you really going to ask the person on your first date "are you a us citizen"? I dont see nothing wrong with it. Immigrants are people too. Its no different then a white person dating a black person or dating out of race. Its not the persons status that you like its the person themselves and it should always be that way!!!!!!!!!

I would perhaps date a legal green-card-carrying immigrant, but I would absolutely not date an illegal alien (unless the police wanted to involve me in a sting operation).

Well, that example of your friend just plain sucks, but the immigrants are not all bad like him. I hate to sound so sterotypical, but I have dated 2 Africans and they were a little bit like your friends guy.. they lied a lot. But I always preferred dating people from other countries. I got bored with dating white American men. I've dated mostly white guys, then a few Germans, Polish, African.. and then I discovered the latinos.  My husband is from Mexico and it is just sooo much more exciting with him. There is always something new to learn. I hate the idea of living a typical white suburban life. To me, other white couples are a little close minded. I want to learn about the world and different cultures and languages and I love the Mexican cultures. There is always some celebration going on and everyone walking by is always invited. It seems to me that they are always enjoying life and not stressing about stupid non-sense like us. They are very close with their families and I love that about them. Who knows, maybe I was Mexican in my past life..
