Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad announces 18-member Malaysian squad for Asian Champions Trophy

Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad, the deputy president of the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF), has announced the 18-member national squad, which surprisingly includes the young duo Fitri Saari and Amir Farid Ahmad Fuzi due to the unavailability of some injured senior
players, for the upcoming Asian Champions Trophy to be played in Ordos, China from September 3 to 11.
Top Asian sides like Pakistan, South Korea and India along with Japan and the hosts, China, will compete for the inaugural title.
The Malaysians will start their Asian Champions Trophy’s campaign on September 3 against Pakistan, the reigning Asian Games Champions.
Tai Beng Hai, national team’s coach told that senior and experienced players like Azlan Misron and Kelvinder Singh were not dropped from the side instead they were being rested for some of the important assignments in near future including the Champions
Trophy to be held in India in December.
“They will have a programme to work on while the team is away. They have the experience we need and it is just that we want to ensure they are fully fit for the tournaments which matter to us,” Tai Beng Hai, the coach of the Malaysian national men’s hockey
team, explained his views about the veteran duo.
“We also have two players – Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin and Mohamed Shahrun Nabil – who were recently injured coming back into the team. We want to see how far they have recovered and how they can fit into the team,” Tai Beng Hai further added to his comments
regarding two of the team’s returning players.
The Malaysian national Men’s hockey squad for the Asian Champions Trophy includes the following athletes:
Mohd Shukri Abdul Mutalib, Mohd Madzli Ikmar, Mohd Amin Rahim, Faizal Saari, Nabil Fiqri Mohd Nor, Mohd Marhan Mohd Jalil, Azreen Rizal Nasir, S. Kumar, Roslan Jamaluddin, Mohd Razie Abdul Rahim, Baljit Singh, Mohd Azammi Adabi, Mohd Firhan Ashaari, Mohd
Shahrun Nabil Abdullah,Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin, Izwan Firdaus Ahmad Tajuddin, Mohd Fitri Saari and Amir Farid Ahmad Fuzi.
Meanwhile, the team will be coached by Tai Beng Hai with the assistance of Nor Saiful Zaini whereas Stephen van Huizen will be the team manager.
