  1. Best thing I found that worked (as a top up to calpol of course!) was right before bed going into the bathroom and turning on all the hot taps/ showers etc...closing the window and doors and letting the steam fill the room.

I also put a couple of drops of olbas oil for children in the bath and let this go into the steam too.  Sit with the kids and talk to them in there, and let them inhale the steam.

My daughter slept all night after that!

Hope it works for you too.x

  2. If you are in the UK you could rub snuffle babe on his chest , its not as strong as vicks vaporub but very effect for a small person and also prop his mattress up so he isn`t lying completely flat ..

    Good Luck xx

  3. Vick's baby balsam is good, the chemist will also have a vapour air fan but i think they are only recommended for over 3 months old but if  you speak to pharmacist they should be able to advise better. hope they feel better soon. and that you don't get it too!

  4. OTC infant cold meds CAN be used as long as you consult your pediatrician first on the correct dosing.  Most medicines dose by weight, not age.   It's worth giving the medicine if it means both you and your son get some well needed sleep. How can one fight a cold when their body is not resting during the night???

  5. Please check with your health visitor first but I swear by olbas oil, a couple of drops on a hanky near their cot helped my kids breathe and also vick vapour, I used to spread it on their chest and back.  But I have to say that I think your son is a little bit young for these, my little ones are 18 and 15 years old now!  Go to your local chemist tomorrow and ask to speak to the pharmacist, ask him/her what he would suggest.  Good luck.  (Loz's partner Caz)

  6. Do you have a vaporizer for the bedroom?  I have two children so we bought two vaporizers for them when both of them had colds at the same time (which happens a lot).
