  1. i dunno about diabetes, and no shes not too young for it, i'd be worried about bed wetting..

  2. Just like not drinking any water can hurt you drinking TOO much water can as well. She doesn't need to be drinking so much right before going to bed, it'll just keep her up and want to use the bathroom. Put your foot down and stop her from doing it so excessively.

  3. Get her to a doctor, quick!

It could be nothing more than a bad habit, but with your health problems, why take a chance?

  4. As soon as I read your question and before I read the narrative, I was thinking diabetes.  She is not too young.  Get her to the pediatrician post haste.

  5. look i know that your family has diabetes but fortunately diabetes cannot be passed on and it was just the luck of the draw that you and all of your family have diabetes.  See if she goes to the bathroom a lot and if so then it is absolutely normal.  He/ She is young and her body is exposed to a lot of things so she drinks more water to get rid of the bacteria and viruses in her/his body.  It is perfectly normal.  But if she is drinking more water than getting rid of it you should see his/her pediatrician.

  6. you must have tested her sugars? id have her to the drs with such a strong family history. i have diabetes and i test my kids evey now and then.

  7. Yes she can.  Excessive thirst is a primary sign, along with excessive urination.  In fact, excessive is the wrong word.  They'll be so over the top you'll think you're losing your mind.  Watch for signs of ketoacidosis - abdominal pains, funky smelling breath and pores, unexplainable sleepiness, labored breathing for no reason and projectile vomiting.

Excellent that her ketones are negative.  Stay on top of that.  And she's not thirsty during the day.  Sounds like she's in the clear!  What a puzzler that it's only happening at night.  Here's a long shot but here goes... Have you been having red meat for supper the last few nights?  I get unbelievably thirsty in the hours that follow a meal that includes, steak, hamburger, any kind of meat.  It doesn't happen to everyone, in fact, I hear it's pretty infrequent.  It has to do with the salt.  It doesn't promote any health risks, it's more annoying than anything else.

Call her pedi and relay her symptoms.  Based on his follow-up questions he'll either alleviate your concerns, have you come in, or send you to the ER.  Good luck and I hope she doesn't have it.  We don't want new members to the club!
