She is allergic to Milk, Soy, and all fruit.

She is 6 months old and her milk and soy allergy causes major hives. She has seen a specialist and he has given me a epi-pen for her. He also said that it was not the correct dosage but it will help!

Has anyone had to use an epi on an infant? Is it as scary as I think it will be?

  1. I have thankfully never had to use our epi-pen but I do practice with the practice one they give you and I make others practice with it too.  That way if I ever need to use it I won't panic as much and will be able to think clearly.  My son is allergic to nuts and eggs.  keep the benadryl on hand too - we live on that stuff cause my son has problems with the nuts and eggs even being around him in the air or when someone eats them and breathes on him.

  2. No i have but My son cant have nuts, beef  or eggs. I have the epi for him to. I most had to use it i had to911 about 6 months a go because of he get butterfiger paper. Have them with you at all time i was you the bast of luck

  3. My niece has severe reactions to all fruit as well. Her throat closes shut and can't breath.  She didn't develop this allergy until she was 14 though and she absolutely loves fruit. I have never had to use a epipen but I would imagine the thought of my child having a life threatening reaction to something would be more scary than having to give one to them.

  4. All fruit?  What?

The good thing is there is a good chance she will grow out of those allergies, the bad thing is that you need to work to keep her away from exposure for a while.

Yes I used an epipen on my 2 year old (human's are babies until age 3), sucked a$$.  For one, the tip bent when injecting because you have to push down with a little force and wait for it to eject - he was squirming when it ejected, and so it pulled when I pulled the needle out.  Other then that, not as scary as the thought of him dying from accidental exposure to peanut butter!  Then again, he didn't get hives - he starts immediately having issues.  He was fine after that.

Also keep on hand Benedryl to go with the Epipen.  Fun fun fun...  Okay, not really - but you can do this and I bet that in a year or so she will be past all but one allergy, and perhaps by age 5 all of them - keep her away from nuts and eggs for now too.
