  1. You didn't mention what grade level your daughter is trying to pass, but if she is in high school, there is an excellent site that has a free practice test for the GED and/or TAKS  test.

    4test.com

Once you have taken the math section, click on your answers that you missed and they explain not only what the correct answer is, but a step by step of how to work the problem.

You can also get the school to give your daughter tutoring.  You may have to request an ARD meeting (Admission, Review, Dismissal) to have modifications like more time to test, the test given verbally, etc , put in place.

You have specific rights and your school is required by state law to give you a parent's rights handbook.  If you don't have one, request one.

You will need to be your child's advocate, don't take no for an answer.  Most schools will only offer the minimum unless you plead your case and/or threaten to contact an attorney.

    Good luck,

    Tex

  2. George , Did I see correctly on one of your questons that your daughter had been in special ed. at some time or other . Then if I did, this test was really , really unfair , because special Ed students are really deprived of the same education others get . Why do I say this? Because in Texas until last year or the year before , special Ed students were not required to take the taks test , so they were really not taught the same though they may have been in a regular class . I mean that if the teacher knew that your daughter was not required , he/she would have not worried about her passing it because she was exempt and it would not count on the teacher's accoutability.

So in actuality , your daughter was crammed with knowledge for 1 - 2 years and expected to pass a test covering what it had taken the other students 10 - 11 years to learn . I really have a problem with that and now they tell her she can not graduate because of that . Again we as parents are having something crammed down our throats by the state . I bet you were really never even contacted prior to this because she did not have to take the test so the teachers, by the school district policy , concentrated on the ones who had to pass the test and no one else . Unfair to teachers who just want to teach the subject and every student and totally unfair to the student who for

years has not had to take the test and then in 1 - 2 years suddenly be held accountable for materials she had never seen before .

Just thought I would let you know this .

I hope it helps you in your fight for what is right.

Good luck and God bless you and your daughter.
