Question:

Daughters first birthday party.

I am doing the invitations today. I have updated my baby registry from Babies R Us, to new toys or items appropriate for our daughter. It really is to give family and friends an idea of what to get for her. I don't insist people buy her anything from it for the matter, but many people ask what she wants at holidays and parties and I usually say to check out the registry. Is it unappropriate to insert in the invitation somewhere that we are registered at the store? I feel like it might be very akward and don't think I should do it... What would you think if you opened an invitaion to a 1 years old party and saw this?

  1. NO not at all. I would be glad to have a way of knowing what the baby needs and a way to get a gift I was sure would be liked.

  2. I don't think it will matter whether or not you put it in the invite,  people will buy what they want to buy.

  3. I would think that it says that you expect gifts. I think it is a little tacky. If someone were to ask you then maybe you can tell them...but I would only do that if it was a close friend or family member. Other than that I wouldn't.

  4. I wouldn't do it.  If people ask you can tell them.

Trust me you are going to get a TON of toys and won't know what to do with them.

A one year old only needs a few good toys and they are set!

To help with the toy problem you can always suggest contributing to an education fund.  There is no greater gift than that!

  5. I would think that it is tacky. You should never expect gifts for any reason.

    Here's why:

I had a friend who wrote in her son's invitation that they would like money instead of gifts! Then she put a jar on the food table with a label stating " Braydon's College Fund"!!

I was appalled. Needless to say, I didn't get the kid anything and I don't associate myself with her anymore.

  6. I think you should put it in the invitations. On my daughter 1st birthday I wanted clothes so I put her size on the invite. Of course some people still got her toys which I was ok with. I recently went to twins 3 yr old party. I had no idea what to get them. I just got them a gift card. Had the parents put in the card what they might like I would have been better off. So yeah help the people out.
